Senior Honors Research Symposium 2022

9 Senior Honors Student: Ka Ɵ e Miller Faculty Mentors: Dr. Barbara Cannella  Second Degree Students Sa Ɵ sfac Ɵ on ( cont.) Areas of concern included:  Responsiveness to concerns  Answers to concerns  Delay in no Ɵ fi ca Ɵ on of clinical loca Ɵ on  Financial issues (tui Ɵ on, fees)  Remote learning and IT support provided The review of the literature indicate accelerated second-degree students are an older popula Ɵ on than tradi Ɵ onal nursing students, have increased commitments outside of aca- demic responsibili Ɵ es, and advanced learning needs. These needs include:  Early focus on career planning and progression while in school  Learning via hands-on methods to promptly apply learned concepts  older demographic with increased fi nancial responsibility  responsibility for other issues (children, household management, employment) Conclusion The results of the Student Engagement Survey are consistent with exis Ɵ ng literature. Con- sidering the intense and rapid pace of the second-degree program, the demographics and lives of second-degree students must be considered in order to increase sa Ɵ sfac Ɵ on among the students in the program and implement strategies to change the dissa Ɵ s fi ers, such as the delay in no Ɵ fi ca Ɵ on of clinical placements, responsiveness to concerns, and fi nancial issues. In the future to follow-up on these fi ndings, it will be important to look into the low response rate for the survey before making any changes to improve second degree students’ experiences. This will ensure that every e ff ort will be made to accurate- ly represent the majority of students. If the results are the same with a more representa- Ɵ ve sample, focus groups should be conducted to gain be Ʃ er insight into which changes would improve their experience and lead to developing prac Ɵ ces and methods to in- crease the sa Ɵ sfac Ɵ on among the second-degree students at Rutgers University.
