Abdol H. Islami, M.D. Foundation, Inc. 2014-2015 Scholarships

Deadline Monday, March 10, 2014 Extended to March 24, 2014!

Full-time Rutgers School of Nursing students enrolled in the BSN, MSN, or DNP degree program are eligible to apply for the Islami scholarship. BSN students must have completed at least six months (or the equivalent of 1 full semester) in their program prior to applying. Students enrolled in 3-year to 4-year programs must have completed at least one year (or the equivalent of two full semesters).

This scholarship is awarded to financially needy health care professions students who display outstanding academic achievement, exemplary character, and active community service. Applicants must be U. S. citizens who hold New Jersey residency.

Rutgers School of Nursing Alumni Association 2014 Scholarships

Application Deadline: March 17, 2014

The Rutgers School of Nursing Alumni Association grants several scholarships, typically ranging from $500 to $1000 each, to Rutgers SN students enrolled in the BSN, MSN, Post-Master’s, and DNP programs, as well as the PhD in Urban Systems (Urban Health track only). Preference is given to high-achieving students who actively support their peers and programs at the School of Nursing and/or demonstrate exceptional volunteer community service.

Volunteer Abroad Grants

http://www.omprakash.org/images/userfiles/images/volunteer/geneva.jpgThe Omprakash Volunteer Abroad Grant supports travel and living expenses for qualified, energetic, and entrepreneurial individuals who want to volunteer abroad within its international network of grassroots health, education, and environmental “Partner” organizations hosting social projects in more than 30 countries ranging from Ecuador to Kenya to India and beyond. While the majority of volunteers are required to cover their own travel and living expenses, the competitive grant program enables Omprakash to enlist inspired individuals who are poised to contribute to its mission but would be unable to pay their own way.
The program has three basic aims:

  • to provide talented young people with educational and empowering experiences of global citizenship,
  • to provide its Partners with needed support,
  • and to expand the scope and depth of our impact by recruiting volunteers who exhibit the intention and capacity to make a long-term contribution to its international network.

The Volunteer Abroad Grant program is open to all, regardless of age or nationality. Omprakash reviews four cycles of grant applications each year. Quarterly deadlines are May 15, August 15, and November 15, and February 15. In addition to grant supported travel, Omprakash offers volunteer opportunities with no administrative fees for those who can support their own participation.

Graduate Program Leadership Scholarship administered by Rutgers School of Nursing

Rutgers School of Nursing provides internal funding to support students enrolled in the DNP and Post- BSN-to-DNP programs.

Students currently enroll in the DNP and Post-BSN-to-DNP programs who meet the criteria are eligible to apply for the graduate program leadership scholarship. All applications shall be reviewed by the scholarship committee and the selection and the awarded amount shall be based upon the number and level of excellence of applicants as well as the availability of funds.

Eligibility criteria:

The Marcia Granucci Scholarship Fund

Application period: March 1 – May 15

The Marcia Granucci Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund was formed in 1995 in the memory of its namesake who was killed while serving vulnerable populations in Monmouth and Middlesex counties in New Jersey. The Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, a member of the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group, and Marcia’s family established this scholarship as a tuition grant for nurses in pursuit of a graduate level degree and to continue the professional legacy of its namesake, who developed a community-based mental health program at VNA of Central Jersey. A 1972 graduate of Salve Regina University School of Nursing, and a 1974 graduate of the Yale University School of Nursing Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Program, Marcia Granucci was dedicated to the design of health care systems for the disenfranchised and those with mental disorders. Initially targeting only Psychiatric and Community Health Nurse candidates who are New Jersey residents, the scholarship now also funds tuition grants for nursing graduate students in pursuit of clinical leadership or family health advanced degrees.  

Scholarship purpose:
To provide scholarships to graduate nursing students interested in pursuing an educational concentration in psychiatric/mental health, community health nursing, clinical leadership or family health.

Field/area: Psychiatric/mental health, community health nursing, clinical leadership or family health.

Level of education for award: Graduate level.

Number and amount:
One scholarship annually, up to $2,000 per academic year.  Renewable upon reapplication.

Eligibility requirements:
New Jersey resident; will consider both part-time and full-time students.  Current licensure.  Must demonstrate acceptance into a graduate nursing program of a National League of Nursing (NLN) or American Association of Colleges for Nursing (AACN) – accredited educational institution. Minimum 3.0 GPA.   Special consideration for applicants who demonstrate volunteer involvement.

Additional information:
The applicant is required to submit an application, three (3) reference reports, and their transcripts, GRE scores and a personal statement. Final applicants may be required to appear for a personal interview.

Cook/Rutledge Fellowship

Apply between January 15 and February 15, 2014

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), Office of Minority and Multicultural Health (OMMH) is the sponsor of the Cook/Rutledge Fellowship. To qualify students must be enrolled in a New Jersey graduate school program of Medicine, Nursing Law, or Public Health (preferably with a focus on research design although not a requirement).

The fellowship placement will run for 8-10 consecutive weeks during the summer. Fellows should be prepared to discuss the OMMH vision, goals and objectives with the executive director and demonstrate an understanding of the current and relevant health equity/ health disparity issues impacting the racial, ethnic minority populations in New Jersey.

The OMMH Cook/Rutledge Fellowship is a summer program designed to begin and end during the summer months. Students who have graduated or will complete their programs by spring or summer 2014 may not apply. Students who are currently employed and, or have a work-visa status are not eligible to apply. The Fellowship has provisions for a $6,000 stipend that is contingent upon availability of state funds.

Applicants must provide the following:

1. Cover Letter
2. Completed Cook/Rutledge Fellowship Program Application
3. Essay - a typed written, double-spaced essay (not to exceed 3 pages) describing the applicants interest and experience relevant to the Fellowship. The essay may include (but is not limited to) particular areas of interest, previous activities that demonstrate commitment to public health, and personal goals.
4. Resume
5. Deans’ Letter (or Program Advisor) on school stationery - documenting the applicant’s current academic performance and that applicant will be enrolled in the medical, nursing, law or public health program during the upcoming academic year.
6. Completed Cook/Rutledge Fellowship Candidate Evaluation Form
7. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation from: a) college instructors – indicating the applicants commitment to and understanding of the issues facing the racial, ethnic minority populations OR, b) community-based or faith-based organization or public health organization where the applicant volunteered, worked or assisted with a health care initiative that directly impacted a racial, ethnic minority group.

Minority Nurse

Minority Nurse offers an annual scholarship to help outstanding nurses from underrepresented groups complete their studies toward a Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing. The organization is currently accepting applications for its 15th
annual scholarship competition, consisting of two $1,000 awards and one $3,000 award. Scholarships will be paid in summer 2014 for the fall 2014 academic
term.

Who Is Eligible?

To apply for this scholarship, students must meet all four of the following criteria:

  • Be a minority in the nursing profession
  • Be enrolled (as of September 2014) in either the third or fourth year of an accredited B.S.N. program in the United States or an accelerated program leading to a B.S.N. degree (such as R.N.-to-B.S.N. or B.A.-to-B.S.N.) or an accelerated master’s entry program in nursing for students with bachelor’s degrees in fields other than nursing (such as B.A.-to-M.S.N.). Graduate students who already have a bachelor’s degree in nursing are not eligible.

Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. (NEF) Scholarship

Ge-NMF Primary Care Leadership Program

Deadline: January 31, 2014

In 2014, 78 PCLP Scholars will each receive a $7,000 scholarship stipend that is expected to cover travel, living, and lodging expenses during the externship period. PCLP Scholars complete their program requirements during a six week period between the months of June and August. Students are required to find their own housing and to arrange their transportation to the placement city and throughout the externship period.

The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) for PhD students

Deadline extended to December 9, 2013

The NINR Graduate Partnerships Program  is a doctoral fellowship training program that coordinates training and funding for PhD students attending a school of nursing. The program combines the academic environment of a university and the breadth and depth of research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The goal of the program is to encourage and support the training of nursing doctoral students who are motivated to undertake careers in basic or clinical research. Students are encouraged to apply prior to their final year of doctoral coursework with the anticipation that, once accepted as a GPP fellow, they will matriculate to the NIH within one year to begin the research for their dissertation.

Dissertation research will be conducted within the Intramural Research Programs of the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. The student's academic advisor and an NIH scientist will serve as co-mentors for the dissertation process. All of the academic institution requirements for the doctoral degree must be fulfilled. Students will receive their doctoral degree from the academic institution in which they are enrolled.

Financial Support
NINR will support students for up to three years. Trainee support includes a stipend, tuition allowance, modest sums for travel, and health insurance.

Eligibility Criteria
The NINR GPP is open to doctoral (PhD) students currently enrolled in a school of nursing who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Preference will be given to applicants committed to a career in the nursing and scientific research community and with a research interest that is congruent with one or more focused research areas in the NIH Intramural Research Programs. To be considered eligible for the 2014 GPP, applicants must have all doctoral coursework completed no later than August 2014.

Tylenol Future Care Scholarship

Tylenol will award a total of $250,000 in scholarships to 40 future healthcare professionals.  Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Be a resident of the 50 United States, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia

Candidates must:

  • Be a registered nurse with a research doctorate in nursing or a related discipline.
  • Be a junior faculty member in an accredited school of nursing with an academic position that could lead to tenure. Junior faculty are usually at the instructor or assistant professor level.
  • After completing the doctorate, be in an academic position that could lead to tenure for at least two years and no more than five years at the start of the program.
  • Identify at least one senior leader in the school of nursing to serve as a primary (nursing) mentor for academic career planning and to provide access to organizations, programs and colleagues helpful to the candidate’s work as a scholar.
  • Identify at least one senior researcher in the university with similar or complementary research interests to serve as a research mentor. Scholars are encouraged to select the research mentor from a discipline outside of nursing.

The National Hispanic Health Foundation Scholarship

The UMDNJ School of Nursing provides internal funding to support students enrolled in the DNP and Post- BSN-to-DNP programs.

HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

The 2012 application cycle for the Nursing Scholarship Program opens today. Please help us spread the word about the program. If you are familiar with the NSP, you will notice program modifications that have been put in place to meet the needs of the nursing profession and to ensure support for communities with the greatest need.

The NSP provides scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum 2-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility located in a primary care or mental health Health Professional Shortage Area also known as Critical Shortage Facility. While in school, NSP participants receive tuition and fees, an annual payment for other reasonable costs to cover expenses for books, clinical supplies, and instruments, and a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

For 2012, the program is adapting to the increasing demand for nurse practitioners by reserving up to half of the award funds for students pursuing a master’s level nurse practitioner degree.

As in previous years, the NSP is expected to be highly competitive. If there are more qualified applicants than available funding, the NSP will prioritize applications based upon the level of financial need of the applicant.

Executive Women of New Jersey Graduate Merit Scholarship

EWNJ has established a scholarship program to benefit women who are pursuing graduate degrees.
In 2012, EWNJ intends to award grants of at least $2,000 each.
In order to qualify, each nominee must be a female matriculating graduate student
who:

  • is a non-traditional student (returns to her studies several years after her undergraduate degree, or who may have completed an undergraduate degree at a later age); and
  • has a demonstrated financial need and excellent academic performance; and
  • has completed at least twelve (12) credits in the graduate program at the time of nomination; and
  • is carrying a minimum of six (6) credits, which are in fulfillment of the requirements of the intended degree, at the time of the scholarship application; and
  • has been recommended by the Dean/Director of their graduate program - each graduate program within each university may submit up to two (2) candidates (multiple applicants per university are encouraged); and

GE-NMF PRIMARY CARE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (PCLP): SUMMER 2012

Scholarships for Women over 50

AARP Foundation Announces Sixth Annual Women's Scholarship Program Call for Applicants The AARP Foundation has announced a call for entries for its sixth annual Women's Scholarship Program. The program provides funds to low-income women age 50 and older who are seeking new job skills, training, and educational opportunities to support themselves and their families.

To be eligible fo a scholarship, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, be able to demonstrate financial need, and be enrolled in an accredited school or technical training program within six months of the scholarship award date. The program will give priority to women raising the family members of others, to women that have been out of the workforce for more than a year, and to older women veterans.
Scholarship winners are chosen on the basis of financial need, personal circumstances and achievements, educational goals, and the likely impact of the scholarship on their lives.

Scholarship awards range from $500 to $5,000, depending on financial need and the cost of the education or training program. The number of scholarships awarded varies from year to year, depending on the availability of funds and the number of applicants. In 2011, the program awarded over three hundred and fifty scholarships.
Funds may be used for partial or full tuition, fees, and books, and may be used for part-time as well as full-time study. Funds will be distributed directly to the institution.

FAANP Mentorship Program

The Fellows of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) invite applications to the 2012 FAANP Mentorship Program.  The FAANP Mentorship Program was established to match NP experts with NPs who are novices in aspects of their career development.  The Fellows of the AANP are recognized leaders in their fields who have made outstanding contributions to education, policy, clinical practice, and research.  They are committed to the mission of AANP, willing to share their expertise to promote career development of others, and dedicated to the enhancement of the NP profession.

Applicants must be active, full members of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and possess personal and professional qualities that ensure success in relationship building and likelihood of goal attainment through program participation. The mentorship program requires a one-year commitment from both expert and novice.  Mentors and mentees must be able to invest time, energy, and resources into their relationship in order to participate fully and benefit from the experience.  Both mentor and mentee are required to submit summary progress reports quarterly.  The mentee and mentor are expected to attend the AANP 27th National Conference in Orlando, Florida in 2012, where the FAANP Mentorship Program will formally begin with an orientation of the program.  The Mentorship Program Selection Committee will review only completed applications.

The Claire M. Fagin Fellowship provides $120,000 for the 2-year fellowship ($60,000 per annum) for advanced research training and mentorship designed to assist doctorally-prepared nurses committed to faculty careers in geriatric nursing.
The Mayday Fund provides an additional $5,000 award to selected scholar and fellow candidates whose research includes the study of pain in the elderly.

National Hispanic Health Foundation Scholarships

Application Deadline: October 28, 2011

The National Hispanic Health Foundation, affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University, will award 20 scholarships to dental, medical, nursing, public health, and policy students who exhibit exceptional academic performance, leadership, and commitment to the Hispanic community. Each recipient will receive $5,000.  The scholarships will be presented to awardees at the Fourth Annual California Scholarship Gala in Santa Monica on Thursday, November 10, 2011 and the Eighth Annual New York Scholarship Gala in New York City on Thursday, December 1, 2011.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF INDIAN NURSES -NJ CHAPTER NURSING STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

American Association of Indian nurses - NJ2 (AAIN NJ2)  gives an award of $250.00 each every two years during the biennial conference to two eligible undergraduate or associate degree nursing students of Indian heritage from United States.
AAIN NJ   is the organization for all professional nurses and nursing students of Indian origin/heritage that creates a community of excellence in nursing practice and health care through networking and collaboration. The organization is committed to excellence in nursing education and nursing practice. The awarded scholars must be actively participate in promoting the goals of nursing profession.
Selection criteria:

  1. Currently enrolled in a state approved associate degree or baccalaureate degree nursing program and consistently maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  2. One letter of recommendation from the faculties/ instructors is required.
  3. Student must have at least one more year to complete the nursing program.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholars

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholars program provides two years of support to postdoctoral scholars at all stages of their careers to build the nation's capacity for research and leadership to address the multiple determinants of population health and contribute to policy change. The program is based on the principle that progress in the field of population health depends upon multidisciplinary collaboration and exchange. Its goal is to improve health by training scholars to:

  1. investigate the connections among biological, genetic, behavioral, environmental, economic and social determinants of health; and
  2. develop, evaluate and disseminate knowledge, interventions and policies that integrate and act on these determinants to improve health.

New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN) Scholarships

The New Jersey League for Nursing supports and implements the mission of the National League for Nursing to promote excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce at the constituent level.

NJLN is pleased to provide nursing scholarships to enhance academic and professional development. A limited number of scholarship awards are granted each year to provide financial assistance to individuals pursuing or advancing their career as a professional nurse.

Scholarships are given to qualified in-state residents, enrolled in a National League for Nursing accredited school of nursing as a LPN, RN, BSN, or MSN candidate. UMDNJ is an NJLN accredited school. Please see the official Nursing Scholarship Criteria for details.

Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey Scholarships

The Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey ( PNANJ)  is now accepting applications for the 2011 PNANJ Nursing Scholarship contest. PNANJ provides financial support for one academic year to matriculated nursing students enrolled in Associates Degree in Nursing ( $500.00), Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing ( $1,000.00), Master’s Degree in Nursing or Post-master’s degree in Nursing ( $2,000.00).
